I first started thatching in 1989 when I started my apprenticeship with a thatcher I had managed to contact and had agreed to teach me the art of thatching. I was employed by him until 1994 when I became self employed and continued to work for the same thatcher for a further year after which time I worked for some other thatchers in Essex to learn different ways to thatch.
